Do your soup bags contain plastic? Here’s the truth.
Recently, a few of you have reached out asking us about the material of our soup sachets.
“I drink your soup almost every day…but suddenly I realized I never checked what the bag is made of. Is it plastic? Is it safe for long boiling?”

We understand your concerns and we are grateful that you care about what goes into your body as much as we do. This simple question reminded us why we started Benafit in the first place which is to create nourishing, trustworthy wellness without hidden doubts. So, we are here to answer your concern.
Do your soup bags contain plastic?
No — absolutely not. We know that when it comes to herbal soup, convenience matters but your health matters more.
When we were choosing our sachet material, we wanted something that aligned with our values: nature, safe and kind to the earth. That is why Benefit only use premium food grade PLA (polylactic acid) corn fiber which is a plant-based material.
PLA is made from renewable corn, not petroleum. It is 100% plastic-free, microplastic-free, heat-safe and biodegradable. Most importantly, it stays stable even during long simmering sessions without releasing microplastics or affecting the taste of your herbs.
If you have ever wondered, “Are soup bags safe?” or “Do soup sachets contain plastic?”, this guide is for you!
Why do some soup bags use plastic and why you should avoid them?
There are many common tea bags and sachets are made with Nylon, PET (polyethylene terephthalate), Polypropylene and “paper” bags that contain plastic sealing fibers.
These plastic materials are durable and cheap, but they are not biodegradable while the worst is they can release microplastics when exposed to hot water.
This becomes especially concerning with herbal soup because it isn’t brewed like tea. Herbal soup typically needs to be simmered for around 2 hours and under such long heat exposure, plastic-based materials may release microplastics into your soup.
This is something we are never willing to compromise on. That’s why Benafit refuses to use any petroleum-based plastic soup bags.

What exactly are microplastic and why do they matter?
Microplastics have become a global concern for several reasons. Some studies show that microplastic can:
- Enter our body through food and drinks
- Remain in tissues and organs
- Trigger inflammation or stress in cells
- Carry chemical additives like BPA
Moreover, studies even found that a single plastic tea bag can release up to 11.6 billion microplastic into hot water. Imagine that a tea bag is brewed for 2 to 3 minutes while a soup bag is simmered for 2 hours, this means that the risk has naturally increased. So, choosing the right material really makes a big difference. This is why PLA corn fibre is not just a better choice as it is also much safer compared to others.
Why PLA corn fiber sachets are better for you and the environment?
As we mentioned, our PLA soup bags are made completely from corn fiber which is a plant-based material. It offers benefits that align with everything Benafit stands for:

-

How can you help to care for our mother of nature?
Plastic sachet contributes to global pollution because:
- It takes centuries to degrade
- It breaks into microplastics
- It harms wildlife and ecosystems
- It requires fossil fuels to manufacture
So, choosing plant-based, biodegradable soup bags helps reduce long-term waste and supports a more sustainable living. In a way, your bowl of soup becomes a small but meaningful act of care for yourself and the earth.
